EDMOND, Okla. -- Northeastern State pushed its overtime streak to three straight games Wednesday night, but the RiverHawks' comeback fell just short in a 97-93 overtime loss to Central Oklahoma at Hamilton Field House.
NSU (8-6, 1-4 MIAA) trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half before grinding back into the game with paint touches, second-chance looks and transition buckets. The RiverHawks scored 60 points in the paint and won the rebounding battle 43-35, including 16 offensive boards, to keep the pressure on the Bronchos (10-7, 3-2 MIAA).
Xavier Glenn continued his scoring surge with 21 points, his fifth consecutive game with at least 20.
AJ Reed Jr. added 19 points and hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds of overtime to keep NSU within striking distance.
Ethan Blackmon finished with 15 points and eight rebounds, while
Taven Washington scored 13 and
Harry Neilson chipped in 12 on 6-of-8 shooting. NSU had five players reach double figures.
The RiverHawks erased the deficit and forced overtime after Neilson scored on a jumper with four seconds left in regulation to tie it at 76. NSU traded punches with Central Oklahoma in the extra session, but the Bronchos went 8-of-10 at the foul line in overtime and got a game-high 37 points from Matthew Willenborg to hold on.
NSU's next game is Saturday at Rogers State for a 3:30 p.m. tip in Claremore. Tickets will be available in person only at the Claremore Expo Center.
