Late Bunt Lifts Northeastern State to 1-0 Victory

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State scratched across a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure a 1-0 victory over East Central on Thursday afternoon at the Anthis-Brennan Family Sports Complex.

With the international tiebreaker in effect, Mia Sarwinski started the eighth on second and advanced to third on a bunt single by Mattison Hamilton. Korynn Tindel followed with a bunt single of her own, driving in Sarwinski for the game's only run.

The RiverHawks improved to 7-2 overall, while East Central fell to 2-7.

Jensyn Elder (5-1) earned the win after tossing a complete-game shutout. The right-hander allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out eight over 8.0 innings, facing 29 batters. Elder worked out of the Tigers' best scoring threat in the fifth inning, stranding a runner at third to preserve the scoreless tie.

Northeastern State totaled seven hits, with Hamilton, Tindel, and Emily Carpenter each recording two hits. Tindel drove in the lone run of the contest.

East Central pitcher Brooklyn Charnock (1-2) took the loss despite allowing just one unearned run on seven hits with five strikeouts in 7.0 innings.

Northeastern State returns to action this weekend to face Arkansas Monticello and Oklahoma Baptist on Friday.
