NSU Drops 7-6 Decision to Arkansas-Monticello

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State dropped a 7-6 decision to Arkansas-Monticello on Friday afternoon after the Blossoms scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The RiverHawks fell to 7-3 on the season despite erasing multiple deficits and tying the game in the seventh.

Arkansas-Monticello (6-3) opened the scoring with a two-run home run from Chasden Collins in the first inning. NSU responded in the fourth, plating three runs to take a 3-2 lead. Madison Nance delivered a two-run double to right field to even the score, and Ashlynn Turner followed with an RBI single to put the RiverHawks in front.

The Blossoms regained the lead with two runs in the fifth on a two-run single by M. Martin and added two more in the sixth to extend the advantage to 6-3.

Northeastern State answered in the seventh. Mia Sarwinski singled to start the inning, and after two walks loaded the bases, Annsleigh Morris cleared them with a three-run double to tie the game at 6-6.

The game remained tied into the ninth before Arkansas-Monticello capitalized on an NSU error. With a runner placed on second to begin the inning, a throwing error allowed the winning run to score and secure the walk-off victory.

The RiverHawks totaled eight hits in the contest, with Sarwinski and Turner each collecting two. Morris drove in three runs, while Nance added two RBI.

Brooke Wyatt started in the circle for NSU and worked six innings, allowing six runs on seven hits with one strikeout. Jensyn Elder (5-2) was charged with the loss in relief.
