RiverHawks Erupt for 10-Run Inning in 19-9 Win Over Truman

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State used a 10-run second inning to power past Truman, 19-9, Saturday afternoon at Rousey Field as part of a doubleheader.

The RiverHawks improved to 4-3 overall after overcoming an early deficit with one of their most explosive innings of the season.

Trailing 7-2 in the bottom of the second, Northeastern State sent 14 batters to the plate and scored 10 runs on two hits. The inning was fueled by patience at the plate and aggressive baserunning, as the RiverHawks drew three walks and were hit by four pitches.

Tregan Hyder jump-started the rally with a two-run single to right, trimming the deficit to 7-4. After a balk and a sacrifice fly made it 7-6, NSU tied the game on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to Joseph Perry. Another hit batter — this time Xavier Sanchez — gave the RiverHawks the lead. Klete Finley then delivered the decisive blow with a three-run triple to left and later scored on a Truman error to cap the inning with a 12-7 advantage.

Finley paced the offense with a 4-for-5 performance, scoring five runs and driving in six. She added a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Jackson Dillingham also homered, finishing with two runs scored, while Sanchez crossed the plate four times and doubled.

Truman (1-1) struck first with four runs in the opening inning, highlighted by a two-run home run from Max Burke, and added three more in the second before NSU responded.

The RiverHawks continued to build the lead with a run in the third, two in the fourth, and single runs in the fifth and sixth before adding two more in the seventh. NSU finished with 11 hits and took advantage of seven walks and eight hit batters issued by Truman pitching.

Ty Presley (1-0) earned the win in relief, allowing one unearned run on three hits over three innings with four strikeouts. Izac Sizemore started and allowed seven runs (four earned) in two innings. Hudson Birch and Trenton Smith combined to close out the final two frames.

Northeastern State returns to action Sunday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
