RICHARDSON, Texas -- Northeastern State earned its first men's tennis victory since the program's revival, defeating UT Dallas 6-1 on Friday afternoon at the UTD Tennis Courts.
The win marked the RiverHawks' first in men's tennis since 2000, after the program was reinstated last summer. Northeastern State improved to 1-2 on the season, while UT Dallas fell to 0-3.
NSU set the tone early by claiming the doubles point.
Alexander Edley and
Mansur Khajimuradov secured a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles, and
Luis Denda and
James Edley followed with a 6-1 victory at No. 3 to clinch the point.
In singles play, the RiverHawks won five of six matches.
James Edley earned a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 1 singles, and
Alexander Edley followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2. Khajimuradov was dominant at No. 3, posting a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Tomas Aramburu added a three-set win at No. 4 singles, rallying past Matheus d Zanellato 4-6, 7-5, 10-8.
Baptiste Linet closed out the scoring with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 6.
UT Dallas' lone point came at No. 5 singles, where Ronav Aviur defeated
Manuel Brunengo in three sets.
The order of finish in singles was 3, 1, 2, 6, 4 and 5.
