Northeastern State Sweeps Oklahoma Wesleyan 7-0 in Home Opener

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State made its long-awaited return to the home courts in dominant fashion on Wednesday afternoon, sweeping Oklahoma Wesleyan 7-0 at the NSU Tennis Courts for its third straight victory of the season.

The win marked the RiverHawks' first home dual match since 2000 and served as their home opener in emphatic style. NSU (3-2) did not drop a single point in doubles or singles play, securing its first sweep of the season.

Northeastern State set the tone early by claiming the doubles point with wins across all three courts. Alexander Edley and Mansur Khajimuradov opened with a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles. Luis Denda and James Edley followed with a 6-3 decision at No. 2, and Tomas Aramburu and Baptiste Linet closed out doubles play with a 6-4 win at No. 3.

The RiverHawks carried that momentum into singles.

James Edley secured a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-4, while Alexander Edley added a 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 2. Khajimuradov battled through a competitive second set to win 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 3.

Aramburu dominated at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-2 result, Linet rolled 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5, and Manuel Brunengo completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6.

With the victory, NSU extended its winning streak to three matches and captured its first 7-0 sweep of the season.

The RiverHawks will look to keep the momentum rolling March 3 when they travel to Rockhurst for their next dual match.
