Seven-run inning sinks RiverHawks in Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. -- A seven-run seventh for Missouri Southern clinched the Lions a shortened 13-3 victory in Joplin Friday afternoon.

The RiverHawks (4-10, 0-4 MIAA) gave up an RBI double in the bottom of the second to enter the third down by one score. The bats would respond with RBI doubles from Chase Hamilton and Jaxon Gregory, in addition to an RBI single from Stephen Osborne. The Lions (6-7, 2-2 MIAA) would follow with 12 unanswered, finishing the day in the seventh after expanding a slim three-run advantage into a ten-run final.

Bryce Parlin struck out four but allowed eight hits across a start that went 4.1 innings. Hudson Birch was assessed the loss after giving up seven earned runs in 1.2 innings of work. Offensively, five different players recorded a base hit in the loss.

Due to the potential for weather later this weekend, the series will be completed Saturday with a doubleheader. The opening contest of the day is schedule for a 1 p.m. start.
