Missouri Southern Rallies Late to Edge Northeastern State 4-3

JOPLIN, Mo. -- Northeastern State carried a two-run lead into the late innings Saturday, but Missouri Southern State rallied for a 4-3 walk-off win at Warren Turner Field.

The RiverHawks (4-11, 0-5 MIAA) struck first in the second inning. Chance Pair delivered an RBI single, and Chase Hamilton followed with a run-scoring hit to give NSU a 2-0 advantage. Hamilton later added a walk and scored again in the ninth, finishing with an RBI and a run scored.

Klete Finley went 1 for 3 with two walks and a double, driving in Hamilton in the top of the ninth to briefly put Northeastern State ahead 3-2.

On the mound, Thomas Brownfield was sharp in his start, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing no hits and striking out four. He worked around three walks to keep Missouri Southern off balance through the first half of the game.  Brownfield's day was cut short due to a lightning delay.

The Lions (7-7, 3-2 MIAA) chipped away with a run in the sixth and tied the game in the eighth on a wild pitch. In the ninth, Missouri Southern capitalized on a pair of NSU errors before Jacob Filip delivered a two-run double to seal the comeback.

Luke Beverlin earned the win in relief, while Evan Schuelke took the loss for the RiverHawks.
