TYLER, Texas -- Northeastern State softball continued its dominant early-season form Saturday with a 4-2 win over Hillsdale at Irwin Field, securing the program's first 5-0 start as an NCAA member.
The RiverHawks produced a balanced attack at the plate, with nine hits from seven different players. Junior third baseman
Korynn Tindel delivered the game's biggest swing with a solo home run to left in the seventh inning, and went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Madison Nance added a 2-for-4 effort with two RBI, including a two-out double that extended NSU's lead in the third inning.
Emily Carpenter tallied two hits and an RBI at the bottom of the order.
In the circle,
Jensyn Elder (3-0) earned the complete-game victory, tossing 7.0 innings while allowing six hits and two earned runs. The junior struck out two and walked four on 102 pitches.
NSU opened the scoring in the first and never trailed, adding runs in the third, sixth, and seventh frames. The RiverHawks turned a pair of double plays defensively and committed no errors for the second time this weekend.
