Strong Start Not Enough as NSU Falls to No. 1 Texas-Tyler

TYLER, Texas -- Northeastern State held No. 1-ranked Texas-Tyler off the scoreboard through the first three innings Saturday afternoon, but the Patriots used a pair of multi-run frames to hand the RiverHawks an 8-0 setback in five innings at Irwin Field.

NSU (5-1) limited the nationally top-ranked Patriots to three base hits through the first three frames behind a strong start from Brooke Wyatt, who struck out two and allowed just two earned runs over 3.0 innings of work.

Offensively, the RiverHawks tallied five hits, including a double from Emily Carpenter in the third inning. Mia Sarwinski, Annsleigh Morris, Peyton Watson, and Halle Hance each added singles.

Texas-Tyler (5-4) broke through with two runs in the fourth and added six more in the fifth to end the contest via run rule. NSU left five runners on base and committed one defensive error.

The RiverHawks will return to action Sunday morning with a 10 a.m. first pitch against Hillsdale.
