RiverHawks rout Savage Storm, 16-6

TAHLEQUAH -- The Northeastern State bats blitzed Southeastern Oklahoma to the tune of 14 base hits and 16 runs in a 16-6 seven-inning victory at Rousey Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The RiverHawks (7-14) were dealt a run of damage by the Savage Storm (13-8) in the opening inning. The hosts would answer back with 12 straight scores, highlighted by seven in the fourth inning. After the visitors scored three in the fifth to end the run of unanswered offense by Northeastern, the RiverHawks one-upped them with four more in the bottom of the frame to place the matchup firmly out of reach and set the stage for its early conclusion after the top of the seventh.

Stephen Osborne and Xavier Sanchez landed home runs over the wall during the attack, while Klete Finley legged out an inside-the-park home run in the fourth. In total, NSU more than doubled Southeastern's hit output with 14 against the Savage Storm's total of six. Osborne led with three base hits, batting in four runs in the process. Sanchez batted in five as one of eight different NSU players to log a hit, while he scored three himself.

In the win, the RiverHawks utilized eight different pitchers. The group combined for five strikeouts against four walks, with Ray Wei receiving his first win with the program.

Northeastern State begins an MIAA series on Friday against Rogers State at 2 p.m. on the road before playing the middle game at home on Saturday at the same time.
