CLAREMORE, Okla. -- Northeastern State fell to Rogers State 13-3 on Friday afternoon at the RCB Bank Sports Complex as the Hillcats used a seven-run fifth inning to pull away.
The RiverHawks (7-18, 2-8 MIAA) kept the game within reach early before Rogers State's offensive surge created separation midway through the contest.
Rogers State struck first with a run in the opening inning and added two more in the third to build a 3-0 advantage. Northeastern State answered in the fourth when
Alex Nirider delivered an RBI single to left center that scored
Klete Finley to cut the deficit to 3-1.
The Hillcats responded in the bottom of the fifth, stringing together six hits to score seven runs and extend the lead to 10-1.
NSU mounted a response in the sixth inning. Finley reached on a walk, and
Jaxon Gregory followed with a single before
Xavier Sanchez lined a two-run single to center field, scoring both runners and trimming the margin to 10-3.
The two-RBI hit marked the third consecutive multi-RBI game for Sanchez.
Bryce Parlin (1-3) took the loss after allowing seven runs on nine hits over 4.2 innings. Zach Horwith (3-0) earned the win for Rogers State after surrendering three runs across six innings.
Finley scored twice to lead Northeastern State, while Sanchez drove in two of the RiverHawks' three runs. Rogers State finished with 15 hits in the victory.
