CLAREMORE, Okla. -- After falling behind early, Northeastern State couldn't fully make up ground in a 10-2 setback in the late game of a doubleheader against Rogers State in Claremore.
The RiverHawks (7-16, 2-9 MIAA) surrendered the first runs of the game in the opening inning against the Hillcats (19-3, 7-1 MIAA) after a two-RBI single and a hit batter with bases loaded. NSU found their only scores of the evening immediately after in the top of the second with a two-RBI single from
Joseph Perry. The hosts would land seven unanswered across the third and fourth, while NSU would be held to three base hits for the rest of the matchup.
Xavier Sanchez and
Alex Nirider had two hits apiece in the loss, while
Parker Allen was assessed the loss from the mound after his start lasted a single inning.
Ty Presley led NSU's bullpen with four strikeouts over 4.1 scoreless innings pitched.
The series closes in Tahlequah with a 2 p.m. first pitch on Saturday.
