TAHLEQUAH -- An explosive fourth inning, coupled with stout work on the mound for the final six frames brought Northeastern State the victory in a 5-3 triumph over Central Oklahoma on Tuesday at Rousey Field.
Central Oklahoma (13-15, 4-10 MIAA) had the early advantage after scoring a run in each of the first three innings against three different arms from NSU. This was highlighted by leadoff home runs in both the first and second innings.
Ty Presley would throw the first of six straight scoreless innings for the RiverHawks (10-19, 5-12 MIAA) in the fourth and the hosts would drive into a lead they'd never surrender with five scores in the same stanza.
It began with a three-run homer from
Alex Nirider, followed by a
Jackson Dillingham run off of an error at shortstop.
Chance Pair provided an RBI single to send the advantage to two runs. Presley would exit after the sixth inning and
Jackson Hill,
Evan Schuelke and
Jack Haag would keep the UCO bats in check for the last three innings, with Haag picking up his second save of the season as a result. Presley received his third winning credit of the season after playing a large role in the win, their first over UCO at home since May 7, 2021.
In total, NSU struck out 12 batters with seven different pitchers. Across the last six innings, the Bronchos were held to two hits, while the RiverHawks landed all seven of their Tuesday hits in the same span of time. Seven different NSU players had hits in the win, with
Jaxon Gregory leading the team with two.
The RiverHawks begin a series against Washburn on the road Friday at 4 p.m.
