TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State earned the doubles point, but struggles in singles play allowed Southeastern Oklahoma State to clinch a 4-2 decision over the RiverHawks Thursday.
Daisy Barrow and
Renata Morales earned NSU's first doubles triumph after 30 minutes in a 6-3 win before
Lucia Bontempo and
Sofia Kotliarova would clinch the initial point a minute later with another 6-3 final.
Laura Mertens would be the only individual to claim a singles victory, winning in straight sets. The win marked her third straight in the No. 4 spot and her fifth victory across her last six singles matches. The RiverHawks (7-4) fell in straight sets on four courts, with the clinching moment for Southeastern (4-7) happening on court one.
NSU will open their MIAA schedule tomorrow at 11 a.m. on the road against Arkansas-Fort Smith.
