TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — No. 16 Central Oklahoma struck early and never let up, defeating Northeastern State 7-1 on Saturday afternoon at RiverHawks Park.
The Bronchos opened the game with a solo home run on the fourth pitch and built a four-run cushion before Northeastern State answered in the fourth inning.
Madison Nance accounted for the RiverHawks' lone run, driving an RBI single through the right side to trim the deficit.
Central Oklahoma responded with a run in the fifth and added two more in the sixth on consecutive RBI hits to pull away.
Emily Carpenter paced Northeastern State from the leadoff spot, reaching base three times and swiping a bag.
The RiverHawks managed four hits, left six runners on base and struck out six times.
Jensyn Elder (10-6) took the loss, allowing four earned runs over 5 1/3 innings.
Northeastern State fell to 20-12 overall and 7-4 in MIAA play with the loss in the doubleheader opener.
