TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State dropped the finale of a three-game series to Newman on Monday in a 12-4 decision.
The RiverHawks (6-14, 2-7 MIAA) allowed the opening run to the Jets (4-16, 2-8 MIAA) in the top of the first before NSU answered with three scores of their own before exiting the inning. Newman responded with 11 unanswered, including five straight scoring innings spanning the third through the seventh. The hosts would find only a slight answer in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single from
Xavier Sanchez.
Jackson Dillingham had three hits in the loss, while Sanchez was responsible for driving home three of the team's four runs alongside his two base hits.
Jaxon Gregory also supplied two base hits in the Monday setback.
Ty Presley struck out seven in a starting role, allowing five earned runs and being tagged with the loss.
Northeastern State wraps up the homestand with a Tuesday encounter against Southeastern Oklahoma at 2 p.m.
