TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Northeastern State secured a 5-2 victory over Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday at the NSU Tennis Courts, continuing its strong history against the Lopers.
The RiverHawks (10-6, 3-2 MIAA) improved to 17-2 all-time against Nebraska-Kearney and 8-1 at home in the series.
Northeastern State took early control by winning the doubles point, claiming victories at No. 1 and No. 3.
Daisy Barrow and
Renata Morales rolled to a 6-1 win at the top spot, while
Camila de Michele and
Laura Mertens added a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, the RiverHawks secured four wins to clinch the match.
Morales picked up a straight-sets win at No. 2 singles, while
Sofia Kotliarova followed with a 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 3. Mertens added another point with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4, and
Carla Alvarez Perez closed out the scoring with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 5.
Nebraska-Kearney earned its two points at No. 1 and No. 6 singles.
Northeastern State will return to action April 16 with a road match at Central Oklahoma in continued MIAA play.
