TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State used a five-run seventh inning to rally past Fort Hays State 9-7 on Friday, securing the series victory in MIAA action.
The RiverHawks (16-29, 11-22 MIAA) erased a three-run deficit with a decisive seventh, stringing together timely hits to seize control.
Jake Woodring started the rally with an RBI double before
Joseph Perry delivered a two-run single to tie the game. Later in the inning,
Jaxon Gregory drove in two more with a double to cap the surge.
Zach Burnes provided an early spark, hitting his first home run of the season with a three-run shot in the second inning to pull Northeastern State even after an early deficit.
On the mound,
Evan Schuelke (2-1) earned the win with 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief, shutting down Fort Hays State down the stretch.
The series finale was moved to Connors State College due to field conditions at Rousey Field.
Northeastern State will close out the regular season with a three-game series beginning Thursday, April 30 at Emporia State.
