EMPORIA, Kan. — Northeastern State dropped game one of its final regular season series with a 12-2 loss to Emporia State Thursday.
The RiverHawks (16-30, 11-23 MIAA) were attacked at the beginning by early offense from the Hornets (33-15, 20-14 MIAA), who plated seven runs across the first three innings. A five-run outburst in the third highlighted the scoring run, while NSU returned fire by plating a run in the fourth inning with a Stephen Osborne RBI single and in the fifth with a solo Zach Burnes home run.
ESU got back on the scoreboard in the sixth with a two-run homer, later adding two more home runs and three more scores in total to force the matchup's early conclusion in the bottom of the eighth.
Carson Miller had two hits in the loss, while the Burnes homer marked his second in as many games. Brazen Bockius started on the mound, allowing the first six earned runs of the game. Bockius would be hit with the loss after 2.1 innings pitched. Parker Allen accounted for three of the bullpen's six strikeouts.
The RiverHawks play game two tomorrow at 2 p.m.
