TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State mounted a strong comeback in singles play to defeat Emporia State 4-3 on Friday in MIAA women's tennis action.
The RiverHawks (12-8, 5-3 MIAA) dropped the doubles point after Emporia State claimed victories at No. 1 and No. 2, but responded with a surge in singles to secure the dual.
Northeastern State's rally was fueled by multiple three-set victories.
Renata Morales rebounded after dropping the opening set to win 0-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while
Laura Mertens followed a similar path at No. 4, rallying for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 win.
Daisy Barrow added a straight-sets victory at No. 2, and
Sofia Kotliarova secured another point with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 3 to clinch the match.
The win continued Northeastern State's strong history against Emporia State, improving to 14-3 all-time in the series and 8-1 at home this season.
With a spot in the MIAA Tournament already secured, the RiverHawks will close out the regular season Saturday against Washburn at 10 a.m.
