RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. -- Northeastern State came up short in a tightly contested pitching battle, falling 2-1 to Arkansas Tech on Monday in the opening game of a doubleheader.
The RiverHawks (26-21) were limited offensively, managing just four base runners in the game.
Annsleigh Morris provided the lone highlight, hitting a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to break up the shutout. Morris' blast marked her seventh of the season.
Mattison Hamilton recorded two of Northeastern State's hits in the contest.
Arkansas Tech scored its first run in the opening inning and pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh following a lead off double. Despite the loss, the RiverHawks' pitching staff delivered a strong performance, holding the Golden Suns to four hits while stranding eight runners on base.
Jensyn Elder allowed just two hits in the start for Northeastern State.
Northeastern State will continue the doubleheader later Monday.
