WICHITA, Kan. -- Northeastern State matched Newman's shot output with each offense logging 17 attempts, but a 79th-minute goal for the hosts placed the RiverHawks on the receiving side of a road loss in the team's conference opener.
After a scoreless opening half, which saw the sides combine for 16 shot attempts, the RiverHawks (1-5, 0-1 GAC/MIAA) sent 10 tries in the direction of the Newman (2-5, 1-0 GAC/MIAA) in the second half, including four in the final 11:52 after the late score from the Jets. Across the evening, the RiverHawks were shut out on 17 tries, including 10 on target attempts.
Miguel Carrasquinho led NSU with seven shots, while
Carter Adams added five. The duo combined for six of the team's shots on-goal in the loss. Defensively,
Victor Jaunay logged five saves.
Northeastern State faces Fort Hays State on Saturday at 1 p.m. in continued conference action, the finale of a three-match road trip.
