TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State dropped a four-set bout against Missouri Southern in the team's home debut.
The RiverHawks (1-10, 0-1 MIAA) committed six attacking errors in the opening set, falling 25-22 to the Lions (6-6, 1-0 MIAA). A late charge from NSU in the second set (25-21) knotted the match, as the RiverHawks closed the frame on a 6-1 run after trailing 20-19.Â
The Lions fought off a hard-charging NSU comeback attempt to close the third set (25-23). The RiverHawks put together their longest run of the night with eight unanswered points after MSSU took a 23-15 lead, but the visitors answered with the final two points to take the set.
Missouri Southern closed the match with a 25-18 decision in the fourth set.
Paige Miller led the team with a season high 15 kills, while
Simeon Paradiso (12) and
Lanie Brown (10) also recorded season highs in kills.
Poliana Lazarini led NSU with three service aces, while
Sydney Dunkleberger added an ace with a season-best 28 assists.
Jordyn Berger set a season high with 21 digs.
Northeastern State returns to the floor Saturday at 2 p.m. against Central Missouri in the NSU Event Center.
