Adams' Two Goals Lift RiverHawks Past Oklahoma Christian

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Carter Adams scored twice for the first multi-goal game of his career as Northeastern State defeated Oklahoma Christian 3-2 Saturday night at DeLoache Field.

Adams, who paced the RiverHawks in scoring last season, scored both of his goals in the first half to help NSU overcome an early Oklahoma Christian lead.

The Eagles opened the scoring in the third minute, but the RiverHawks answered in the 14th minute when Adams found the back of the net off an assist from Edson Marchan.

Adams struck again in the 30th minute, this time with Miguel Carrasquinho providing the assist, giving NSU a 2-1 advantage heading into halftime.

Marco Cornelio added an insurance goal in the 61st minute, converting a penalty kick to push the RiverHawks' lead to 3-1.

Oklahoma Christian trimmed the deficit to one in the 72nd minute, but Northeastern State's defense held firm over the final 18 minutes to secure the victory.

Victor Jaunay made three saves in goal for the RiverHawks. NSU finished with 16 shots, putting seven on frame, while Oklahoma Christian recorded 13 shots and five shots on goal.

Adams finished with four shots, including two on goal, while Matos added two shots and two shots on target.

The RiverHawks close out non-conference play Thursday, Sept. 10, when they travel to face UT Dallas. It will be the first meeting between the two programs.

The game statistics confirm the 3-2 result, Adams' two goals, his four shots, Jaunay's three saves and the 16-13 NSU shot advantage.
