Volleyball travels to Edmond for matches with UCO and Southeastern

TAHLEQUAH – The Northeastern State volleyball team will travel to Edmond this Thursday and Friday for in-state games before starting MIAA play next week.

The RiverHawks (1-7) broke through in Lawton on Saturday with their first win as an NCAA program by sweeping Cameron on their home floor. The team nearly knocked off Minot State earlier in the day, rallying from two sets down.  Poliana Lazarini leads the NSU with 54 kills and averaged 14 in the last two matches.

On Thursday evening, the RiverHawks will play Central Oklahoma in a non-MIAA match at 6 p.m. The Bronchos are ranked No. 22 in the latest AVCA poll and have a 6-3 record. The two rivals last met in 1980. NSU also last faced Southeastern in the early 1980s, when the sport was sponsored. The Savage Storm will start Great American Conference play on Tuesday against Oklahoma Baptist before facing the RiverHawks. Southeastern is 4-4 this season.

The match against UCO will start at 6 p.m. on Thursday, and the game against Southeastern is set for 10 a.m.
