Biography

MLB Career

2021 – 
Appeared in 51 games with the Cardinals in which he went 6-4 with a 4.56 ERA and 47 strikeouts over 47.1 innings before he was shut down in mid-August.

2020 – Season limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic . . .  made 12 appearances for the Cardinals and struck out ten batters.

2019 – Began the season with Memphis before betting called up to the major leagues for the first time on April 16 and made his debut that day, throwing two and a third innings in relief . . .  placed on the injured list on June 13 and was reassigned to Memphis following his activation on July 3 . . . recalled fon August 4, spending the remainder of his 2019 regular season in St. Louis' bullpen. . . . over 36.6 relief innings with the Cardinals, Helsley went 2–0 with a 2.95 ERA, striking out 32 . . . In that year's postseason, Helsley pitched 5.1 innings with no earned runs and 8 strikeouts.

2018 – Started the season in rookie league before being elevated to Springfield and later returned to Memphis where he finished the year . . . had season cut short due to injury in June . . . was added to the St. Louis Cardinals 40-man roster following the season. 

2017 – Opened the year with Palm Beach Cardinals (MILB Class A+)  . . . posted an 8-2 record during his time with Palm Beach to go along with a 2.69 ERA in 17 games pitched, 16 of them being starts . . . helped lead the Cardinals to a First Half South Division Championship . . . named Pitcher of the Year in the Flordia State League . . . was promoted mid-season to Springfield (MILB Class AA) . . . made his debut in Tulsa . . . made six starts with 41 strike outs with the Cardinals before getting promoted up to Memphis where he made five starts with the Redbirds. 

2016 – Promoted and played for the Peoria Chiefs (MILB Class A)  . . . named Midwest League Pitcher of the Week (April 24)  . . . struck out 109 batters and 17 starts  . . . went 10-2  in 95 innings pitched. 

2015 – Reported to Johnson City (MILB Rookie) . . . made nine starts for the Cardinals and struck out 35 batters ... went 1-1 in 40.1 innings pitched 

NORTHEASTERN STATE – Pitched in 26 games and made 21 starts during his two years at NS . . . compiled a 14-8 record and a 4.06 ERA in 126.1 innings pitched . . . threw three complete games and tallied 151 strikeouts . . . lone underclassmen to earn a spot on the 2015 All-MIAA First Team, and he was also named to the 2014 All-MIAA Second Team as a freshman . . .  selected by the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday in the fifth round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft . . .  was the first player from the MIAA and the second player from the state of Oklahoma (Anthony Hermelyn, University of Oklahoma) selected in the 2015 draft . . .  fifth player in all of NCAA Division II to come off the board.

2015 – Finished fifth in the nation and first in the MIAA in strikeouts per nine innings (13.4) . . .  fanned an MIAA-best 95 batters and compiled a 3.53 ERA in 63.2 IP . . .  All-MIAA First Team Selection . . . named MIAA Pitcher of the Week (April 29) . . . earned a win in the MIAA Tournament to eliminate top-seeded Central Missouri in a best-of-three series . . .  recorded 10+ strikeouts in four starts . . . had two at-bats . . . struck out 95 batters which was a NCAA era best at the time. 
 
2014 – Made 14 appearances and nine starts on the mound in his rookie season . . . named to the All-MIAA Second Team and honored as the MIAA Freshman of the Year . . . tallied a 7-4 record and a 4.60 ERA in 62.2 innings pitched . . . led NSU in victories and was fourth in the MIAA in that category, becoming the first RiverHawks pitcher since 2009 with at least seven wins on the mound . . . also led NSU in strikeouts (56) and complete games (2), and was second in ERA, starts and innings pitched . . . conceded just 14 extra-base hits all year and gave up 32 earned runs . . . went 7-1 during an eight-game stretch late in the year that included a win over Central Missouri (May 3) in the first round of the MIAA Championship . . . racked up a season-best nine strikeouts in 6.0 innings against Washburn (April 25) . . . first-career win was in a relief appearance against Pittsburg State (March 14) where he sat down eight Gorillas . . . had back-to-back 7.0-inning complete-game victories against Nebraska-Kearney (April 4) and Missouri Southern State (April 11) . . . was twice named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week (March 25, April 29) . . . honored as an MIAA Scholar-Athlete and landed on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
 
High School – Competed at Tahlequah Sequoyah HS under Jeff Turtle . . . was named to the All-VYPE top 100 and to the All-Phoenix team senior year . . . also named an all-state honorable mention performer in basketball senior year . . . was an academic all-state recipient and an Indian all-state athlete  in basketball as a senior . . . was honored as a first team All-Phoenix performer as a defensive back in football senior year . . . landed on the All-VYPE first team as a wide receiver as a senior.
