Scott Reed enters his eighth season as RiverHawks Assistant Coach.
Reed, who has two degrees from Northeastern, served five seasons under Larry Gipson, was instrumental in helping NSU win five consecutive Lone Star Conference North Division titles and the 2003 NCAA Division II National Championship.
"Words cannot adequately express how excited I am that Scott has decided to return to Northeastern State," said Gipson. "Scott is an oustanding coach whose contributions in the past are very well known. He will undoubtedly contribute more to our program now that he is returning."
After the 2003 campaign, Reed was hired as head coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he led the Bulldogs to 47 wins in three years. His most successful stint was in 2005 when SWOSU won its first 11 games, was 20-9overall and spent 11 consecutive weeks ranked in the Division II Bulletin/NABC poll. The Bulldogs achieved a No. 3 national ranking in January of 2005, marking the highest rating at Southwestern since the 1965 NAIA squad made it to No. 1. Reed's teams made one NCAA Division II Regional Tournament appearance and earned three consecutive trips to the LSC Postseason Tournament.
"My family and I are excited about returning to Northeastern," said Reed. "I am really grateful for the opportunity to have led the basketball program at Southwestern Oklahoma State. I am proud of the success we achieved and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead now at Northeastern State."
A native of Tahlequah, Reed and wife, Marnie, have two children: Riley, age 3, and Lilly, age 1. Reed's father, Lanny Joe, taught science and physics at Northeastern until his retirement.
