Women’s Soccer to Play at SBU, Host UCM

Northeastern State travels to Bolivar, Mo., plays at home in this week’s action

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team will travel to Bolivar, Mo., and host another MIAA contest this weekend. The RiverHawks (9-2-0, 5-2-0 MIAA) will first travel to take on Southwest Baptist (5-5-2, 2-2-2 MIAA) at 4 p.m. Oct. 11, before competing in a home match with Central Missouri (9-1-2, 5-0-1 MIAA) at 7 p.m. Oct. 13.
 
NSU is currently on a three-match win streak after suffering its only two defeats of the year.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Southwest Baptist is currently sporting a 5-5-2 overall record with a 2-2-2 mark in the conference. The Bearcats have defeated Nebraska Kearney and Washburn, lost to Fort Hays State and Central Missouri, and tied with Missouri Southern State and Emporia State. The team is being outscored by a narrow 12-11 margin, and SBU is led in scoring by Karla Jamison (4g-0a=8p). Kate Jamison (2g-2a=6) and Ashley Creason (1g-4a=6p) are second on the team in scoring, and Megan Link (5-5-1, 0.94 GAA, .861 S%) serves as the top goalkeeper.
 
SCOUTING THE JENNIES
Central Missouri owns a 9-1-2 record with a 5-0-1 mark in the MIAA. The team has won five of its last six matches, and it will face No. 19 Central Oklahoma two days before the meeting with NSU. The Jennies' only loss of the year came at Truman State, and UCM has also defeated Emporia State, Southwest Baptist, Missouri Southern State, Fort Hays State and Washburn. Central Missouri is outscoring opponents 21-8 and outshooting foes 95-40. UCM is led in scoring by both Alexis Robbers (6g-0a=12p) and Becky Lackey (4g-2a=10p). Jessica Grindstaff (6-1-2, 0.62 GAA, .800 S%) serves as the top goalkeeper.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Northeastern State pushed its current win streak to three matches after defeating MIAA foes Nebraska Kearney and Fort Hays State last weekend. Freshman forward Lindsey Latta led the RiverHawks against the Lopers, putting home the game-winning goal and assisting on the other two markers in a 3-1 victory. Junior midfielder Renee' Valcarcel scored in the 106th minute to give NSU the 2-1 double OT triumph over the Tigers to complete the weekend sweep. Junior goalkeeper Maggie Kloza (5-1-0) earned both wins in net for Northeastern State.
 
MAKING A SPLASH
The RiverHawks are entering their first season as members of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The theme for the inaugural year in its new home is “Making a Splash in the MIAA”. NSU was independent last season after spending 16 years in the Lone Star Conference. The MIAA sponsors 13 women's soccer teams: Central Missouri, Central Oklahoma, Emporia State, Fort Hays State, Lindenwood, Missouri Southern, Missouri Western, Nebraska-Kearney, Northeastern State, Northwest Missouri State, Southwest Baptist, Truman State, and Washburn. NSU will face off against 12 of the 13 MIAA members this season.
 
WOOTEN RETURNS FOR YEAR THREE
Northeastern State women's soccer coach Chase Wooten is in his third year to lead the RiverHawks. Wooten steered NSU to a 11-4-3 record in his second year improving from a 7-6-5 record in his first season with the RiverHawks. Wooten came to the RiverHawks in 2010 after serving as the head coach for Centenary College for six years.
 
RETURNING STATISTICAL LEADERS FOR NSU
Northeastern State returns 25 of its 35 goals (71 percent) from a year ago, including senior forward Rachel Sordahl, who led the RiverHawks with 11 goals and five assists, and junior mid-fielder Renee' Valcarcel with four goals and nine points. Junior forwards Emily Voges and Jennifer Clark each scored three times last year. Kelsey Sheldon put up a pair of goals while Hisa Turner and Kaili Endres each scored once.
 
2012 MIAA CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT
The 2012 MIAA Championship will include four games to be played at the top four seed team's campus sites on October 30, 2012. Two semi-final games will be played on Friday, November 2 at the highest remaining seed's campus. The championship match will take place on Sunday, November 4 at the semifinal site.
