EMPORIA, Kan. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team earned a spot in the 2012 MIAA Championship with a 4-1 victory over Emporia State Friday night at ESU Pitch.
The RiverHawks (11-4-1, 6-4-1 MIAA) remain in fifth place in the conference standings after outshooting the Hornets (4-10-2, 0-8-2) 17-13.
Junior forward
Jennifer Clark scored the opening goal for the RiverHawks in the 25th minute with help from junior midfielder
Emily Voges. Sophomore midfielder Elizabeth put away the game-winning marker in the 33rd minute following a pass from freshman forward
Lindsey Latta.
The Hornets were able to cut the lead in half in the 59th minute when Mindi Lozenski got on the score sheet, but Latta scored in the 66th minute off an assist from Cudjoe, and Cudjoe would score her second goal of the match in the 74th minute. Clark assisted on the game's final goal.
Junior goalkeeper
Maggie Kloza (7-3-1) earned the win after saving four shots and allowing the one goal. Melanie Nuessen and Nikki Schmitz split halves for the home side, with Nuessen suffering the loss.
Northeastern State will close out the regular season in Topeka, Kan. The team will meet Washburn at 2 p.m. Oct. 28 before beginning play in the MIAA Championship quarterfinals Oct. 30.
NSU still has a shot to host a quarterfinal match. If the RiverHawks defeat the Lady Blues, and either Truman State loses or Northwest Missouri State loses or ties, then Northeastern State will earn a top four seed and the right to host.
