WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The No. 23-ranked Northeastern State women's basketball team dropped a 75-67 double overtime decision to NAIA member Lubbock Christian in Friday's season opener. The game was part of the SWOSU Bulldog Classic.
The RiverHawks (0-1) held a 33-24 advantage at halftime and led by eight points with less than eight minutes to play, but the Lady Chaps (1-0) fought back and were able to force overtime.
NSU had a chance to win the game at the end of the first overtime session after a steal from senior guard
Tosha Tyler with 44 seconds to play, but three missed shots in a row from the RiverHawks sent the game into a second OT, where LCU took control.
The team outscored Northeastern State 13-5 in double overtime.

Taylor Lewis led the RiverHawks in scoring with 17 points. Tyler hit four three's and added 14 points, and sophomore guard
Chelsey Stricklen contributed 10 off the bench.

Katy Harsen had six rebounds each, and NSU was outrebounded 48-36.
The team was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line, made 11 three-point shots and turned the ball over just 10 times.
The Lady Chaps are coming off an appearance in the Final Four of last year's NAIA National Championship.
They were led in scoring by Emily Atkins' 21 points. Kelsey Canavan (13 points, 14 rebounds) and Nicole Hampton (11 points, 12 points) both contributed double-doubles, and Kelsey Hoppel dropped 16 points off the bench.
Northeastern State will now face Oklahoma City at 1 p.m. Saturday in Weatherford, Okla. OCU defeated LCU in the Final Four last year en route to the NAIA National Championship.
