WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Northeastern State football team dropped a 51-7 decision to Central Missouri on UCM's Homecoming Saturday afternoon at Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
 
The RiverHawks (0-8, 0-7 MIAA) stayed at the bottom of the MIAA standings, while the Mules (4-4, 3-4 MIAA) moved to .500 on the season. UCM outgained NSU by a 603-215 margin, winning the passing battle 229-176 and posting a 374-39 edge in rushing yards.
 
The Mules started the game off strong, going 65 yards on just five plays to take a 7-0 lead just 1:06 into the game. LaVance Taylor capped the drive with a 16-yard TD rush.
 
UCM kicker Zach Gebhardt added a 33-yard field goal on the Mules' next drive and Hayden Hawk connected with Tristan McClelland for 14 yards to give the home team a 17-0 advantage after the first quarter.
 
Hawk and Ronrei Lloyd hooked up for 23 yards at the 11:53 mark of the second and Gebhardt added a 30-yard boot with five seconds left in the half to send the Mules into the locker room with a 27-0 advantage.
 
Central Missouri scored on its four drives, turned it over on the next two (downs, interception) and ended the half with a field goal. Northeastern State had a missed field goal attempt on its opening drive and punted on its last five drives of the first half.
 
The Mules came out and added a field goal on their first drive to start the second half and, following an interception by NSU freshman safety Darrain Winston, sophomore quarterback Thor Long was intercepted by Zach Quines who returned the ball for a three-yard score.
 
Evan Campbell capped a 15-play, 86-yard drive by UCM early in the fourth to push the score to 44-0, but NSU was finally able to get on the board when freshman quarterback Cory Meaders connected with sophomore wide receiver Prince McJunkins for a 28-yard score with 8:28 left in the game.
 
UCM's Kellen Kempf capped the scoring with a one-yard carry late in the game.
 
Long finished the game 10-of-25 passing for 83 yards, while Meaders was 8-for-12 for 93 yards and one touchdown. The two QB's were sacked a combined seven times.
 
Hawk was 16-for-33 with two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Mules.
 
McJunkins led the NSU receivers with a career-high seven catches for 83 yards and a score. There were nine different players who recorded a catch. Junior running back Terrance Dixon carried the ball 16 times for 40 yards.
 
Taylor led UCM's rushing attack with 137 yards and one TD on 10 carries.
 
Sophomore safety Kyler Harris recorded a career-high 18 tackles for the NSU defense.
 
The RiverHawks will return home next Saturday, Nov. 2 for a 2 p.m. bout with Southwest Baptist.
