TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team earned its first MIAA victory with a 1-0 triumph over Northwest Missouri State Friday night at DeLoache Field.

The RiverHawks (7-2-0, 1-2-0 MIAA) battled the Bearcats (3-5-1, 1-2-0 MIAA) throughout the first half only to come away scoreless moving into halftime.

NSU would find the back of the net in the 59th minute when senior forward Jennifer Clark was sent free up the middle on a toe-poke from senior midfielder Elizabeth Cudjoe. Clark took on NWMSU goalkeeper Kelsey Adams 1v1 and beat the Bearcat with a low shot to the right post for her seventh goal of the season.

Northeastern State worked to sustain the lead throughout the remainder of the second half and ended up with a victory of 1-0 in regulation play.

"I thought we did a good job in the second half settling the game down under really physical circumstances," NSU Coach Chase Wooten said. "We were finding opportunities to punch the ball through, but we just missed two or three golden opportunities to add an insurance goal to take the pressure off. Northwest Missouri State just stayed with it and stuck to their game plan.

Clark netted her fourth game-winning goal of the season, and she leads the conference in both goals scored and game-winners.

NSU outshot NWMSU 19-6 and also had the advantage in corner kicks 7-4. The six shots for Northwest Missouri State was a season low. The last time the Bearcats were held to six shots was when they defeated the RiverHawks 3-0 on their home field last year.

Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Woodruff (7-2) saw all 90 minutes of play, made three saves and allowed no goals. She picked up her third clean sheet of the season.

"Our hope is to win conference games this weekend and to take care of business while we are here at DeLoache Field," Wooten said. "We would love to even out our MIAA record at 2-2 to take some of the pressure off that we put on after starting 0-2."

The RiverHawks will play host to Missouri Western State set at 1 p.m. October 6 at DeLoache Field to close out Homecoming weekend.
