TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State softball team split two games with Arkansas Tech at RiverHawks Park Wednesday.

NSU (8-12) dropped the first game 7-4 to Tech (11-12) and won the nightcap 5-2.

“I am happy we were able to get the win in the second game,” NSU coach Clay Davis said. “We were in a bit of a slump and needed a spark before conference play. Hopefully the girls can build off this win going forward.”

Northeastern State's freshman Saharra Henson led off the game with a homer to left field in the home half of the first inning to put the home side on top 1-0. Junior Madison Reed added another run on a sacrifice fly by junior Megan Robison to end the first frame 2-0.

The Golden Suns scored three in the top of the fourth inning to one-up the RiverHawks 3-2. NSU tied Tech 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth frame on a homer from senior Lisa Ripperger to the left field. 

NSU would score its last run in the bottom of the sixth on a home run by Robison to lead Tech for the final time 4-3.The Golden Suns went on to score four runs in the top of the seventh inning to come from behind and take the game 7-4 over the RiverHawks.

Robison led NSU with two hits, one run and two RBI. Henson and Ripperger each added one hit, one run and one RBI.

Freshman Kayce Wooldridge (3-6) tabbed the loss in the circle after throwing the full seven frames. She allowed 12 hits and seven earned runs.

Arkansas Tech put two on the board in the third inning to lead Northeastern State 2-0. Henson homered to center field to add one for NSU to end the home half of the third frame 2-1.

The RiverHawks scored senior LaQuieta Drew on a single from junior Allyson Pogue. Drew was pinch-running for NSU senior Kelsi Hilderbrandt, who reached base on an error by the right fielder.

Reed and Pogue scored on a double to left center from junior Amanda Harjo to put NSU ahead 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Northeastern State secured the win in the bottom of the sixth frame when Robison scored on a throwing error and the Golden Suns were unable to answer in the top of the seventh.

NSU outhit Arkansas Tech 8-5, and eight different members of the home recorded a hit. Harjo drove home two.

Sophomore Shelby Enloe (1-0) notched the win, her first of the season. Enloe threw for 4.2 frames and only allowed two hits and struck out four. She replaced sophomore Alex Files, who threw the first 2.1 innings in the circle, but suffered an injury that put her out of the game. She allowed three hits and two runs.

NSU snapped an eight-game losing streak.

The RiverHawks will see their next matchup against Pittsburg State at 1 p.m. March 15 for a doubleheader in Pittsburg, Kansas.
