PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Northeastern State softball team lost its first conference doubleheader on the road against Pittsburg State Friday.
Northeastern State (8-14) dropped game one 7-0 and were run-ruled 9-1 in five innings of the nightcap by Pittsburg State (12-4).
The Gorillas were 10-4 coming into their first home matchup of the season against the RiverHawks.
Pittsburg State 7, NSU 0 (box score)
The Gorillas ended the home half of the first inning with four unearned runs to lead Northeastern State 4-0. PSU would score three more going into the sixth frame to lead NSU 7-0.
PSU freshman Kyndel Shelburn (5-0) threw a perfect game for 5.3 innings until NSU senior
Kelsi Hilderbrandt struck a double to get on base in the top of sixth inning, which proved to be not enough for Northeastern State as the Gorillas held the RiverHawks 7-0 and notched the win of the conference opener.
Freshman
Kayce Wooldridge (3-7) suffered the loss in the circle. She threw for six frames and allowed seven runs off of six hits, only three of those runs were earned.

The Gorillas opened up game two with a double down right center in the bottom of the second inning to score 1-0 over the RiverHawks. NSU freshman
Saharra Henson homered down the left field line to tie PSU 1-1 in the top of the third frame.
Pittsburg State went on to score three more runs in the home half of the third and fourth innings taking the lead 4-1.The Gorillas run-ruled the RiverHawks in the bottom of the fifth inning off of a three RBI homerun to right center to secure the nightcap 9-1.
Henson picked up her third homerun of the season and scored the only run for NSU.
Sophomore
Shelby Enloe (1-1) took the loss for Northeastern State. She allowed 13 hits and nine earned runs.
The RiverHawks will continue road play Saturday March 16 in Joplin, Missouri for a doubleheader against Missouri Southern State to begin at 2 p.m.
