WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Northeastern State softball team split a pair of games on the second day of the Courtyard by Marriott Invitational hosted by Midwestern State University Saturday at Mustangs Park.
NSU (7-5) run-ruled Oklahoma Panhandle State (2-15)in the morningsession,but fell to Midwestern State (13-4) in the afternoon contest. The Mustangs are receiving votes in the most-recent NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll and were coming off an upset win over No. 13 Emporia State the night before.

OPSU opened the contest with one run scored in the top of the first inning to lead NSU 1-0. The RiverHawksscored two unearned runs from junior
Amanda Harjo and freshman
Saharra Henson to pull past the Aggies 2-1. Senior
Kelsi Hilderbrandt singled up the middle to bring in senior
Lisa Ripperger and Junior
Navada Campos to end the home half of the first inning 4-1.
The Aggies scored again in the third inning, however the RiverHawks would hold OPSU scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Campos and Ripperger hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the fourth frame to tack on three more for the home team on the scoreboard. Junior
Madison Reed also singled to score junior
Allyson Pogue to end the fourth inning 8-3.
NSU senior
Lindsea Ross blasted a walk-off grand slam to right center in the bottom of the fifth to give the green and white a 12-3 triumph.
Ross led the RiverHawks with four RBI. Campos had two runs, two hits and two RBI and Hilderbrandt had two hits and two RBI.
Freshman
Kayce Wooldridge (3-2) tabbed the win after throwing the last 2.2 innings, while allowing only one hit. Sophomore
Shelby Enloe threw thefirst 2.1 frames and allowed seven hits and three runs to pick up the no-decision.
Midwestern State 12 , NSU 5 (Box Score)
Northeastern State scored three runs in the top of the first frame to lead MSU 3-0. The Mustangs got in a groove and scored 10 runs in the home half of the first inning to lead NSU 10-3.
Hilderbrandt singled up the middle to score Pogue in the top of the fourth inning. Robison walked with the bases loaded to bring in Hilderbrandt and improved the RiverHawks to 10-5 to end the top half of the fourth inning.
Midwestern State scored another two runs on a double to left center to end the fourth inning, giving the home team a 12-5 lead. MSU ended the contest in the sixth inning on a homerun to defeat NSU 13-5.
Robison led Northeastern State with two runs batted in, two hits and one run. Hilderbrandt had one RBI, two hits and one run followed by Pogue and Campos each tabbing one run, one hit and one RBI.
Sophomore
Alex Files (2-1) suffered the loss after not being able to record an out in the first inning. She allowed five hits and six runs, and was relieved by senior
Cayce Coleman. Coleman was in the circle for two frames and allowed four hits and four runs. Junior
Kylee Cole pitched the remainder of the contest and allowed two hits and three runs.
The RiverHawks will stay in Wichita Falls Sunday to face off against Abilene Christian at 11 a.m. and Midwestern State at 3 p.m. for the last day of the Courtyard by Marriott Invitational at Mustangs Park.
