Softball Falls Twice to Oklahoma City

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State softball team dropped both contests to Oklahoma City University Saturday afternoon at RiverHawks Park.

NSU (7-11) lost game one in extra innings, while the Stars (16-4) took the second game 14-6. OCU has now won 10-straight games.

Oklahoma City led Northeastern State going into the bottom of the third inning 2-0. NSU senior Lisa Ripperger tripled down the left field line to bring in junior Navada Campos to end the home half of the third inning 2-1.

NSU scored senior Lindsea Ross on a wild pitch and senior Cayce Coleman on a double from freshman Saharra Henson to lead OCU in the fourth frame 3-2. OCU scored two runs in the top of the fifth and two more runs in the top of the seventh to pull ahead and lead Northeastern State 6-2.

The RiverHawks came back with two outs in the home half of the seventh frame to score three runs to tie the Stars 6-6.

OCU scored two runs in extra innings to beat Northeastern State 8-6.

Ripperger led the RiverHawks with two hits and two RBI. Senior Kelsi Hilderbrandt had one hit and two RBI.

Sophomore Alex Files (2-3) took the loss in the circle. She threw two frames and allowed four hits and four runs. Coleman, who was taken out of the game due to an injury, threw for the first five innings and allowed six hits and four runs. Freshman Kayce Wooldridge, who came in to relieve Files, tossed one inning and allowed one hit and no runs.

Northeastern State scored two runs in the home half of the second inning to lead Oklahoma City 2-0. The Stars put one run on the board in the top of the third frame. NSU brought in one run in the bottom of the third inning and another three runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead OCU 5-1.

The Stars battled back with a nine-run fifth to lead the RiverHawks 9-5. OCU went on to win the second game 14-6.

Wooldridge (3-5) tabbed the loss in the circle. She threw for five frames and allowed 11 hits and 10 unearned runs. Sophomore Shelby Enloe tossed for two innings and allowed five hits and four runs.

NSU will host its next contest against Arkansas Tech at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. March 13 at RiverHawks Park.
