Softball Sweeps Lindenwood Series

Wooldridge, Coleman Allow Only 13 Hits in the Doubleheader on Saturday

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Northeastern State softball swept its Saturday series against Lindenwood University at Lou Brock Complex.

NSU (24-20, 14-8 MIAA) took game one in a 10-2 run-rule victory over LU (19-25, 10-14 MIAA) and won game two 8-6 in extra innings.

This is the sixth series the RiverHawks have swept and the fourth MIAA series won this season.

Northeastern State took an early lead in the opening half of the first frame 2-0. Freshman Saharra Henson scored on a double to left field from junior Amanda Harjo to put NSU ahead 1-0. Henson reached base on a walk. Junior Allyson Pogue claimed the second run of the inning after senior Lindsea Ross reached on a fielder's choice. Pogue also reached base on a walk.

The RiverHawks blasted in two more runs in the top of the second inning to lead the Lions 4-0. Henson scored after junior Madison Reed reached on a Lion's error, advancing Reed to second. Henson reached base on a fielder's choice. Notching the second run was Reed on a single from senior Kelsi Hilderbrandt.

NSU would improve its lead by three in the top of the fourth frame to lead LU 7-0. Harjo scored on a triple to right center by senior Lisa Ripperger. Harjo reached base on a double. Ripperger
scored on a single from Ross. Pogue scored the last run of the inning for NSU on a single from junior Megan Robison. Pogue reached base on a walk.

The Lions posted a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth frame but could not thrive, as NSU's offense prevailed, posting another three runs to end game one in a run-rule 10-2 decision in six innings.

NSU was led by Ripperger who went 2-for-3 at bat and had two RBI. Also driving in runs were Hilderbrandt and Pogue, each with two.

Freshman Kayce Wooldridge (9-10) tabbed the win in the circle after throwing a complete game. She allowed five hits and two earned runs.

The RiverHawks were the first to plate runners in game two when Robison struck a homerun to bring in Ross to lead the Lions 2-0. Ross reached base on a double to left field. NSU nabbed its third run of the game when Reed scored after Ripperger reached base after getting hit by the pitcher with the bases loaded. Reed made it to base on a single. Northeastern State led Lindenwood 3-0.

The RiverHawks would maintain the 3-0 lead until pounding in another three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Senior Laquieta Drew scored on a single from Robison. Drew entered the game to pinch run for Ross, who reached base on a double. Hilderbrandt doubled to score in Reed and Robison. Reed reached base on a single.

The Lions finally woke up in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game up 6-6 after erupting on five hits to send the contest into extra innings.
Northeastern State regained the lead after Henson and Pogue scored in the top of the eighth frame to defeat Lindenwood 8-6.

Senior Cayce Coleman (7-6) claimed the win in the circle after throwing a complete eight inning game. She allowed eight hits and six runs.

The RiverHawks will remain on the road for their next series against Southeastern Oklahoma State at 2p.m. April 23 in Durant, Okla.
