TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State softball team dropped two games to Missouri Western State Sunday afternoon at RiverHawks Park.

NSU (26-22, 16-10 MIAA) lost game one in a run-rule 9-0 to MWSU (36-14, 20-8 MIAA) and gave up game two 3-1.

The green and white honored their six seniors between games. The six student-athletes who played their final collegiate games at home were Ashton Bruce, Cayce Coleman, Laquieta Drew, Kelsi Hilderbrandt, Lisa Ripperger, and Lindsea Ross.

MWSU 9, NSU 0 (Box Score)
Missouri Western State took an early 2-0 lead over Northeastern State in the opening half of the first inning.

The Griffons would go on to score one run in the top of the second and third innings to improve their lead to 4-0.

The RiverHawks battled through the fourth frame holding MWSU to 4-0, but Missouri Western State pulled ahead plating three runs in the top of the fifth and two more in the top of the sixth frame to run-rule Northeastern State 9-0.

Coleman went 2-for-3 at bat. Coleman (9-7) also took the loss in the circle after throwing six frames. She allowed 13 hits and nine earned runs.

MWSU 3, NSU 1 (Box Score)
Both teams remained scoreless until Missouri Western State scored two runs on back-to-back plays to lead Northeastern State 2-0 in the top of the third frame.

The RiverHawks plated junior Madison Reed in the home half of the fourth frame after junior Amanda Harjo advanced to second on a throwing error by the catcher. Reed reached base on a single to the shortstop. The RiverHawks ended the frame one run behind the Griffons at 2-1.

MWSU improved its lead in the top of the sixth inning by one to defeat NSU 3-1.

Freshman Kayce Wooldridge (10-11) took the loss in the circle after throwing a complete game. She allowed seven hits and three runs. Wooldridge was 7-1 in her last eight decisions after starting the year 3-9.

The RiverHawks have locked up the No. 5 seed in the 2013 MIAA Softball Championship, which will be contested May 2-4 in Overland Park, Kan.

NSU will face No. 4 seed Emporia State at 6 p.m. May 2, and the team will then play a second game at 8 p.m. that night.

The official brackets will be released by the MIAA at a later day.
