KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The No. 14-ranked Northeastern State men's soccer team tied the MIAA record with 11 all-conference honorees, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced Thursday morning.
Â
The RiverHawks landed four on the All-MIAA First Team, four on the All-MIAA Second Team and three earned honorable mention accolades. For the second time in three years,
Rob Czlonka was honored as the MIAA Coach of the Year.
Â
The four named to the first team are all seniors, and they were forward
Juan Peralta, midfielder
Jordan Schmoker, and defenders
Adam Schmoker and
Terence Smith.
Â
Peralta was one of three players to be unanimously chosen to the first team. All three (including Tanner Brock and Eric Hymer of Fort Hays State) are three-time first team honorees. Peralta is currently second in the MIAA with 18 points, and he is fourth in the league with seven goals. He also has four assists, and he owns the MIAA all-time records for career goals (35) and points (81).
Â
Jordan Schmoker leads the league in the top three statistical categories, including goals (8), assists (13) and points (29). He also leads the nation in assists and assists per game (.765). This is Jordan's third-straight all-conference accolade and his second-straight trip to the first team.
Â
Adam Schmoker has registered three goals and three assists for nine points, while Smith has tallied one goal and one assist for three points. They have both started all 18 matches and have paced an NSU backline that leads the MIAA in fewest goals allowed (14), goals-against average (0.77) and shutouts (8). Adam earned his third-career all-conference honor and his first as a member of the top team. Smith also collected his third all-conference accolade, and this marked the second time in his career he was named to the first team (2012).
Â
The four RiverHawks named to the All-MIAA Second Team were junior defender
Crosby Lee, sophomore goalkeeper
Jackson Biles, freshman midfielder
Hayden Rasmussen and freshman forward
Ricardo Palomino.
Â
Lee has started all 18 matches and owns two goals and three assists for seven points. Rasmussen has registered one goal, which was a game-winner at Lindenwood. Palomino is sixth in the MIAA in points per game (1.00) and tied for fifth with five assists. He has 13 points this season (4g-5a).
Â
Biles is by far the most dominant goalkeeper in the MIAA statistically this season. He leads the league in goals-against average (0.74), saves percentage (.821), fewest goals allowed (12), shutouts (8), minutes played (1464:53) and victories (13).
Â
The four members of the second team all earned their first-career all-conference accolades.
Â
Those named All-MIAA Honorable Mention were junior defender
Chance Miller, junior midfielder
Frank Garay and freshman forward
Justin Todd.
Â
Miller missed time due to injury but has still been an instrumental part of NSU's dominance in defense. He has a pair of assists this season and he picked up his second-career all-conference honor (2013 Second Team).
Â
Garay is tied for fifth in the league with five assists and earned his first-career all-conference honor. Todd has registered 11 points (5g-1a) this year.
Â
Czlonka has led his side to its first MIAA championship, as the RiverHawks captured the regular season title after finishing with an 11-0-1 mark in league play. NSU has a 14-3-1 record overall and will serve as the top seed in the 2014 MIAA Championship that begins tonight. NSU will meet No. 4 Upper Iowa at 7 p.m. in Olathe, Kansas.
