NSU Head Coach Clay Davis Records His 100th Collegiate Win

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State softball team swept a two game series over Bethany College Friday at RiverHawks Park.

NSU (8-6) squeaked by Bethany College (4-8) in the first game by one run to win 3-2, while the second game ended on a higher run margin with the RiverHawks victory of 9-3.

Senior Madison Reed scored the first run for the RiverHawks in the home half of the first frame. Reed reached base on a fielder's choice to third base. Freshman Madison Boyd singled to center field to score Reed and start the game with a RiverHawks lead of 1-0 over Bethany.

The game remained 1-0 in favor of NSU until the top of the sixth frame. The Swedes were able to plate two after a home run landed over right center which put BC up by one run at 2-1.

The RiverHawks' offense was set in motion in the bottom of the seventh inning after a single from freshman Lauren Flanary scored in two runs for the 3-2 walk-off victory.

Flanary and senior Megan Robison both had two hits. Flanary tabbed two RBI while Boyd picked up one RBI.

Sophomore Kayce Wooldridge (3-2) threw the full seven-inning game and recorded the win in the circle. She allowed only five hits and two runs.

The RiverHawks picked up one run in the bottom of the third frame on a leadoff home run by senior Navada Campos to lead Bethany College 1-0.

Northeastern State took advantage in the home half of the fourth frame after Robison homered to left field to score in senior Allyson Pogue and junior Alyssa Aguilar to improve the NSU lead to 4-0.

The Swedes responded with three runs in the top of the fifth scoring, but they would not score for the remainder of the contest. Northeastern State plated three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to push the final margin to 9-3.

Aguilar and Campos both had two hits, Robison notched three RBI and Aguilar also drove home two. Campos recorded her third home run of the season.

Senior Kylee Cole (3-2) gained the win after throwing 1.2 frames in the circle. Cole relieved senior Shelbie Wagnon, who threw for the first 3.1 innings. Wagnon allowed two hits in her first career appearance at Northeastern States. Wooldridge picked up her third save of the season closing out the seven inning game allowing only three hits and no runs.

Northeastern State will be back in action Saturday to host Bethany College at 10 a.m. and then face William Woods at 2 p.m. at RiverHawks Park.
