Four late runs allow Harding to come from behind to top Northeastern State

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Northeastern State softball team opened the 2014 campaign with a 6-4 loss to Harding Saturday afternoon at the TSU Softball Complex.
 
The RiverHawks (0-1) were outhit 13-8 and struck out 10 times on the day in the season opener.
 
NSU got on the board first when a fielder's choice from redshirt freshman Krysti Cearley plated both senior Madison Reed and sophomore Saharra Henson. NSU added to its lead in the second when an RBI single from freshman Lauren Flanary brought home junior Alyssa Aguilar.
 
The Lady Bisons (1-0) cut into the lead in the top of the third when Mackenzie Jones and Jessica Greene both crossed home plate.
 
Harding tied the game in the top of the sixth and scored three in the top of the seventh. The RiverHawks were only able to muster one run in the home half of the frame as the visitors on the scoreboard secured the season-opening victory.
 
Sophomore Kayce Wooldridge (0-1) threw a complete game and allowed six runs on 13 hits. She struck out five and walked just one.
 
Amber Rollins (1-0) also threw a complete game and finished with four runs allowed (two earned) on eight hits, while striking out 10 and not issuing a walk.
 
NSU will remain in Stephenville for games against Northwestern Oklahoma State (10 a.m.) and Southern Nazarene (5:30 p.m.) Sunday.
