TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State softball team swept Lincoln in a conference-opening doubleheader Sunday afternoon at RiverHawks Park.
NSU (12-6, 2-0 MIAA) run-ruled the Blue Tigers (2-7, 0-2 MIAA) 10-0 in the first game of the day and added another victory 6-2 over LU in the afternoon contest. The RiverHawks have now won 10 straight games, and they improved to 10-0 at home. The win streak is the longest since the team won the final 11 games of the 2006 season.
NSU 10, LU 0 (Box Score)
The RiverHawks led off the first series game scoring one run to lead Lincoln 1-0 in the first frame. NSU added two more runs in the bottom of the second and third innings to improve its lead to 3-0.
NSU went on a scoring run in the bottom of the fourth inning, plating seven runs to secure a 10-0 victory in five innings.
Freshman
Lauren Flanary led off the RiverHawks in the fourth inning with a base hit up the middle. Sophomore
Saharra Henson homered down the left field line to score Flanary, which sparked a consistent series of base hits from the offense.
Sophomore
Kayce Wooldridge (5-2) conceded just two hits in the complete-game performance. She did not register a strikeout and walked three.
Deuces were rampant throughout the NSU lineup, as senior
Madison Reed, Henson, freshman
Madison Boyd, senior
Allyson Pogue, and senior
Navada Campos each had two hits in the game.
Henson led NSU with three RBI while Campos added two RBI.
NSU 6, LU 2 (Box Score)
Both teams remained scoreless until the home half of the third frame. NSU plated Reed on a groundout by Boyd as the home team moved ahead 1-0.
The Blue Tigers finally saw some bats turn in the top of the fifth frame and were able to score two runs on the RiverHawks to have the 2-1 lead over NSU for the first time in the day. However that lead was short lived.
Northeastern State scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the Blue Tigers for the second time in the day 6-2.
Henson and Pogue each had two hits, while Boyd recorded three RBI and Reed scored twice
Wooldridge (6-2) threw for the last three innings of the game and gained the win in the circle. She allowed only two hits and struck out a pair. Sophomore
Alex Files started the game for
NSU and tossed 4.0 innings. She allowed four hits and two runs.
The RiverHawks will face Lindenwood in a home series doubleheader Monday at 11 a.m. at RiverHawks Park.
