Box Score 2 TOPEKA, Kan. – The Northeastern State softball team split a doubleheader with Washburn Friday afternoon at the Washburn Softball Complex.
The RiverHawks (25-21, 11-9 MIAA) took game one 7-4 in extra innings over the Ichabods (19-18, 11-9 MIAA) then fell 4-3 in the second game.
NSU 7, WU 4 (

Washburn's Lauren Thimmesch homered to left center to put WU up 2-0 over Northeastern State, then followed up with another run to lead NSU 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning.

Alyssa Aguilar singled to center field in the top of the third frame to score freshman
Lauren Flanary to put NSU on the scoreboard with one run. Senior
Megan Robison singled to left field to plate freshman
Madison Boyd to trail Washburn 3-2.
Both teams battled through three scoreless innings. The top of the seventh frame saw NSU's Aguilar blast a home run to right center to tie up the ball game 3-3 and send the contest into extra innings.
A series of stolen bases in the top of the eighth inning for Northeastern State led to senior
Madison Reed scoring after Boyd reached base on a fielding error by the shortstop to put NSU ahead of WU 4-3. Reed reached base on a single to left field. Aguilar singled to center field and advanced to second then third on a throwing error by the catcher. Aguilar's single scored Boyd and sophomore
Saharra Henson. Aguilar then scored the final run for NSU and improved the score to 7-3.
Washburn plated Thimmesch in the bottom of the eighth inning; however the RiverHawks defense would hold the Ichabods to four runs. NSU took game one of the doubleheader 7-4.
Aguilar led NSU with three hits and four RBI. Reed and freshman
Ryan Martin each had two hits while senior
Allyson Pogue and Robison added one hit and one RBI each.
Sophomore
Kayce Wooldridge (13-8) threw a complete game and tabbed the win in the circle. She allowed seven hits and four runs. Only two were earned runs.
WU 4, NSU 3 (

The RiverHawks took an early 1-0 lead over the Ichabods in the top of the first frame. Boyd singled down the right field line to score Reed. Reed reached base on a walk.
Washburn tied up the game 1-1 in the top of the second frame when Shelby Erickson jacked a home run to left field.
NSU answered back in the top of the third frame when Martin homered to right center to pull ahead of WU 2-1.
The Ichabods scored Erickson in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie up the contest 2-2 and then plated two more runs after Thimmesch homered to left center to take the lead 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth frame.
Boyd singled up the middle in the top of the sixth inning to score Henson and put NSU within one of WU 4-3, however the Ichabods held the RiverHawks and took game two.
Boyd led NSU with two hits and two RBI. Martin contributed one hit and one RBI while Henson added one hit.
Wooldridge (13-9) threw the full six inning game and took the loss in the circle. She allowed seven hits and four earned runs.
Northeastern State will remain on the road and will face the No. 5-ranked Emporia State at 1 p.m. Saturday in Emporia, Kan. at Trusler Sports Complex.
