Box Score 2 TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State softball team lost a doubleheader to Arkansas Tech Tuesday afternoon at RiverHawks Park.
The Suns (27-25) run-ruled The RiverHawks (25-25) 13-2 in game one and won game two 9-6.
ATU 13, NSU 2Arkansas Tech led off the top of the first frame with three home runs to lead NSU 4-0.
The RiverHawks remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when senior
Megan Robison doubled down the left field line to score freshman
Madison Boyd. Boyd reached base on a double to right center. Junior
Saharra Henson then poked one out to left field to score Robison but NSU still trailed ATU 4-2.
The Suns tacked on three more runs in the top of the fourth frame and added an additional run in the top of the fifth frame to improve their score to 8-2.
Arkansas Tech took game one in six innings after scoring five runs to run rule Northeastern State 13-2.
Boyd led NSU with two hits while Robison and Henson each contributed one RBI.
Senior
Kylee Cole (3-5) took the loss in the circle after throwing for four frames. She allowed nine hits and eight runs.
Northeastern State celebrated Senior Day between games and recognized six RiverHawks set to graduate from the program. The senior softball members included
Navada Campos,
Kylee Cole,
Allyson Pogue,
Madison Reed,
Megan Robison and
Shelbie Wagnon.
ATU 9, NSU 6The Suns plated two runs in the top of the first frame to lead the RiverHawks 2-0. Senior
Allyson Pogue scored in the bottom of the frame on a single from Robison to trail ATU 2-1.
Arkansas Tech tacked on two more in the top of the third frame to improve their score to 4-1.
Pogue homered to left field in the bottom of the third frame to add one run for the RiverHawks, 4-2.
The Suns swung around and scored four runs to up their score to 8-2 in the top of the fourth inning.
Henson homered in the bottom of the fifth to plate Boyd but the Suns still led 8-4.
ATU plated one more run in the top of the sixth frame to insure the lead to 9-4.
NSU made a move in the bottom of the seventh frame in an effort to pull ahead of Arkansas Tech. Boyd singled to right field to score Pogue and senior
Madison Reed however the two runs proved to fall short of the Suns lead. ATU took game two 9-6.
Boyd led NSU with three hits and two RBI while Henson added two hits and two RBI.
Senior
Shelbie Wagnon (3-5) suffered the loss in the circle after throwing 3.1 innings. She allowed five hits and seven runs. Sophomore
Kayce Wooldridge threw for 2.2 frames and allowed six hits and two runs. Junior
Laura Fleck finished the game throwing one inning. She allowed one hit.
Northeastern State will face Missouri Western State at 2 p.m. April 25 at Griffon Softball Field in St. Joseph, Mo.
