Box Score 2 ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Northeastern State softball team dropped a doubleheader to Missouri Western State University Friday afternoon at the Griffon Softball Field.
The Griffons (33-15, 16-8 MIAA) knocked off the RiverHawks (25-27, 11-13 MIAA) in game one 6-3 and took game two 4-1. NSU has now lost 15 of its last 16 games.
Despite the losses to MWSU, Northeastern State remained in eighth place in the MIAA standings with two games left in the regular season. The top eight teams in the conference qualify for the MIAA Championship tournament, and NSU is tied with Pittsburg State for the final spot. The RiverHawks can finish anywhere from sixth to 11th in the final standings.
MWSU 6, NSU 3 (

Missouri Western scored one run in the bottom of the first frame to lead Northeastern State 1-0.
The Griffons steadily tacked on runs scoring in the second, third and sixth frames to increase the lead to 6-0.
RiverHawks senior
Navada Campos shook it up in the top of the seventh inning sending a three-run home run over the left field wall to score sophomore
Saharra Henson and senior
Allyson Pogue. Pogue reached base on a walk, while Henson reached on a single to right center.
Campos's late game home run proved to be the only source of runs for NSU as MWSU earned the 6-3 win.
Campos led the RiverHawks with three RBI and tabbed her seventh home run of the season, while Pogue and Henson each added one hit.
Senior
Shelbie Wagnon (3-6) took the loss in the circle after throwing three frames. She allowed five hits and five runs. Senior
Kylee Cole came in for relief and threw the remaining three innings. She allowed two hits and one unearned run.
MWSU 4, NSU 1 (

Missouri Western State jumped ahead of Northeastern State with one run in the bottom of the first frame.
Senior
Megan Robison homered to left field in the top of the second inning to equalize the game at 1-1.The Griffons regained the lead over the RiverHawks scoring three runs in the bottom of the third inning upping the score to 4-1.
MWSU held on to that lead for the remainder of the contest and defeat NSU 4-1 in seven frames.
Robison led the RiverHawks with one hit and one RBI. She also registered her sixth home run of the season, while Pogue added one hit.
Sophomore
Kayce Wooldridge (13-10) suffered the loss in the circle after throwing six frames. She allowed nine hits and four runs while only one run was earned.
Northeastern State will finish the regular season April 26 against Northwest Missouri State at 1 p.m. in Maryville, Mo. at the Bearcat Softball Field.
