Richmond returns to NSU football program

Former RiverHawks assistant rejoins staff to take over strength and conditioning role

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State football coach Rob Robinson announced that former assistant Greg Richmond has returned to the program. Richmond will serve as the team's strength and conditioning coordinator, while also coaching the defensive line.

Richmond will also assist other NSU programs during the summer.

"Coach Richmond has a great understanding of how to take the work in the weight room and transition it to the football field," Robinson said. "As a d-line coach, you really could not ask for a better fit. His (NCAA Division I) and NFL playing experience gives him instant creditability with our players. The great thing about coach Richmond is his ego or lack thereof. He continues to learn from those around him to better himself in the coaching profession."

Richmond served as the defensive line coach at Northeastern State for three years from 2010-12. He has continued to reside in Tahlequah upon leaving the program.

He began the 2010 season at Oklahoma City's Douglass High School before being hired on by former NSU coach Kenny Evans. Prior to his stint at DHS, Richmond served two seasons as the strength & conditioning coach for his alma mater at Oklahoma State University.

"Bringing back coach Richmond was a very easy decision for me after I started contacting coaches he worked for and with in the past," Robinson said. "His passion to make players better really came out during the interview process and everyone I called couldn't say enough great things about him."

Richmond played linebacker and defensive end for the Cowboys before signing a free agent contract with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles. He was a member of the Eagles' developmental teams in 2004 & 2006 and on the injured-reserve list during the 2005 season.

During his collegiate career, Richmond was captain of the 2003 OSU squad, earned First Team All-Big 12 honors and ranked third on the OSU career sacks list. He also was the Oklahoma Defensive Player of the Year and Defensive MVP of the Oil Bowl as a prep senior.

Richmond graduated from Oklahoma State with a Bachelor of Science degree in hotel and restaurant administration. He also completed his Master of Science degree in educational leadership.
