Softball heads to Hays and Kearney for MIAA matchups

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State softball team is set to play doubleheaders against Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney. The RiverHawks (12-16, 4-6 MIAA) will first meet Fort Hays State (15-12, 8-4 MIAA) in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. in Hays, Kansas, March 27. NSU will then travel to Kearney, Nebraska, to face the University of Nebraska-Kearney (7-20, 5-7 MIAA) in a doubleheader beginning at noon March 28.  

Northeastern State will be trying to snap a four game losing streak. Madison Boyd leads the way for the RiverHawks in batting average. The sophomore is hitting .398 (39-for-98) on the season with 21 RBI. Redshirt freshman Paige Gann (.349, 30-for-86) leads the team in home runs (7) and is second in RBI (22). Senior Alli Eales is batting .352 (32-for-94) and is second on the team in home runs (6) while leading the squad in RBI (25). Senior Laura Fleck is 2-2 in the circle for the RiverHawks with a 3.76 ERA. She has struck out 27 in 41.0 innings with one complete game and one save. Junior Kayce Wooldridge (6-6) has a 4.52 ERA this year with seven complete games. She has recorded 53 strikeouts in 79.0 innings pitched.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS                          
Fort Hays State University is located in Hays, Kansas, and the team competes in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Tigers, picked fifth in the MIAA Preseason Poll, are 15-12 in 2015 and 8-4 in MIAA play. FHSU most recently swept doubleheaders against Lincoln and Lindenwood. Tori Beltz leads the team with a .326 batting average (28-for-86), six home runs and 22 RBI. Paxton Duran is 8-5 in the circle for the Tigers, throwing seven complete games with a 2.46 ERA. She has recorded a league high 97 strikeouts in 82.2 innings pitched. Kelsey Kimminau (6-6) has a 2.65 ERA, striking out 34 in 76.2 IP.
 
SCOUTING THE LOPERS
The University of Nebraska-Kearney is located in Kearney, Nebraska, and the team competes in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Lopers are 7-20 in 2015, with a 5-7 record in conference play. UNK was picked to finish 12th in the Preseason MIAA Coaches' Poll. The Lopers most recently lost three of four games to Colorado Christian University after sweeping doubleheaders against Lindenwood and Lincoln. Katie Ruwe leads the way for Nebraska-Kearney, hitting .453 (39-for-86) with four home runs and 37 RBI. Her 37 runs batted in are good for second in the MIAA. Cassie Roessing is 6-3 in the circle with a 3.11 ERA. She has struck out 56 in 63.0 innings pitched. Meg Housholder (1-12) has a 9.61 ERA with 39 strikeouts in 70.2 IP.
