NSU set to play nationally ranked Emporia State

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State softball team is set to play the final home games of its season when it hosts No. 17 Emporia State University in an MIAA doubleheader.

The RiverHawks (17-28, 7-13 MIAA) will host ESU (31-13, 13-5 MIAA) in a MIAA twinbill beginning at 2 p.m. April 20 at RiverHawks Park.

The RiverHawks currently sit in 11th place in the MIAA standings, while the Hornets are in a tie for third with Central Oklahoma. NSU is 5-14 at home, while ESU is 7-7 on the road. 

Northeastern State is coming off midweek nonconference action where the team lost two games to Southeastern Oklahoma State and dropped one game to Arkansas Tech.

Madison Boyd leads the way for the RiverHawks in batting average. The sophomore is hitting .353 (55-for-126) on the season. Redshirt freshman Paige Gann (.312, 43-for-138) leads the team in home runs (11). Seniors Alli Eales (.340, 50-for-147) and Alyssa Aguilar (.297, 35-for-118) have each hit nine home runs and recorded 32 RBI. Junior Kayce Wooldridge (9-11) has a 4.51 ERA this year with 11 complete games. She has recorded 75 strikeouts in 125.2 innings pitched. Senior Laura Fleck is 4-5 in the circle for the RiverHawks with a 4.95 ERA. She has struck out 51 in 76.1 innings with four complete games and one save.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS                    
Emporia State University is located in Emporia, Kansas, and the team competes in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Hornets, currently in a tie for third place in the MIAA standings, are 31-13 in 2015 and 13-5 in MIAA play. ESU most recently split a nonconference doubleheader with William Jewell after splitting with Nebraska-Kearney and sweeping Fort Hays State. The team is ranked 17th in the most recent NFCA Division II Poll. Stephanie Goodwin leads the team with a .431 batting average (62-for-144), 57 RBI and 57 RBI. Brenda Novelo (.281, 36-for-128) leads the squad with eight home runs. Eryn Stockman is 12-7 in the circle for the Hornets, throwing 11 complete games with a 2.36 ERA. She has recorded 47 strikeouts in 115.2 innings pitched. Kaitlyn Caston (13-3) has a 2.43 ERA, striking out 59 in 118.1 IP with 15 complete games.
