NSU set for home and home with Central Oklahoma

Softball to play MIAA home doubleheader, travel to Edmond for nonconference matchup

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State softball team is set to play four games against the University of Central Oklahoma. The RiverHawks (14-18, 6-8 MIAA) will first host UCO (23-12, 8-4 MIAA) in a MIAA doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at RiverHawks Park April 3. NSU will then travel to Edmond, Oklahoma, to face the Bronchos in a nonconference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. April 4.  

Northeastern State is coming off a weekend where it split doubleheaders with Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney. The RiverHawks are currently in 10th place in the MIAA, while Central Oklahoma sits in fifth place.

Madison Boyd leads the way for the RiverHawks in batting average. The sophomore is hitting .375 (42-for-112) on the season with 21 RBI. Redshirt freshman Paige Gann (.330, 33-for-100) leads the team in home runs (8) and is second in RBI (24). Senior Alli Eales is batting .352 (37-for-105) and is second on the team in home runs (6) while leading the squad in RBI (27). Junior Kayce Wooldridge (8-7) has a 4.06 ERA this year with nine complete games. She has recorded 56 strikeouts in 96.2 innings pitched. Senior Laura Fleck is 2-2 in the circle for the RiverHawks with a 4.23 ERA. She has struck out 28 in 43.0 innings with one complete game and one save.

SCOUTING THE BRONCHOS                 
The University of Central Oklahoma is located in Edmond, Oklahoma, and the team competes in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Bronchos, picked second in the MIAA Preseason Poll, are 23-12 in 2015 and 8-4 in MIAA play. UCO most recently split a doubleheader with Cameron after falling twice to Nebraska-Kearney and splitting with Fort Hays State. Kaylee Brunson leads the team with a .405 batting average (49-for-121) and five triples. Morgan Heard (.327, 37-for-113) leads the squad with six home runs and 29 RBI. Kelsey Berlin is 8-5 in the circle for the Bronchos, throwing eight complete games with a 2.77 ERA. She has recorded 49 strikeouts in 93.2 innings pitched. Nicole Brandy (8-6) has a 3.53 ERA, striking out 38 in 79.1 IP with eight complete games.
